I knew I wanted to make some sort of countdown calendar for our trips to Walt Disney World, I just didn't know what I wanted. I thought and thought about it and then Kelly at Disney Guru posted about the countdown calendar she was making with her family. Then my good friend Beth at Pursuing the Magic shared her countdown calendar with me too!
The first thing we did was print out the title for our calendar. I let Cman color it with markers- what a treat! Once he finished, I cut it out and we glued it onto our posterboard. Then I used Kelly's idea of using paint samples from Home Depot. I got 5 of each color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. We then glued those on the posterboard. Once everything was glued,
we I wrote the numbers on the Mickey heads. The next day, I took it to get laminated. All I was missing was something to cover the numbers for us to remove each day. That's when Beth came to the rescue!
Beth at Pursuing the Magic is one of the most creative people I know! She even has a blog for her creative side! So, when I shared that Cman and I were going to make a calendar, she offered to help by cutting some Mickey Ears from her cricut machine. She mailed these to the house and I used my mini personal laminator to laminate the black ears and cut them out. Cman "helped" me tape them onto the colored ears and our calendar was finished!!
Now, each day before school, we take off one black Mickey head to reveal the number of days left until our vacation! This is a typical morning conversation at our house:
Cman- "Are we going to 'Dinny World' today?"
mom- "No, not today. We'll take off a Mickey to see how many days are left."
Cman- "But, I wanna go to 'Dinny World.'"
mom- "I know. But, we still have # days left."
Cman- "I go to Miss Amanda's class today?"
Cman- "But, I wanna go to 'Dinny World' to see Buzz, Woody and Dummo. I don't wanna see Miss Amanda."
