Magical Blogorail Green: My Favorite Resort to Visit

My favorite resort to visit is Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. This Deluxe Resort is obviously located near Animal Kingdom.  I was lucky enough to stay here one trip for 2 nights.  That was most likely my first and last stay at AKL! But, I do love to return to this resort on each visit, if possible, to admire the views and eat great food!

AKL Lobby
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is a lodge style resort that is on a 43 acre wildlife preserve.  The lobby itself is breathtaking!  It's a huge room decorated in African artwork and artifacts.  The lodge has 972 rooms that are beautifully decorated.  The bright African colors used against the dark wood furniture is gorgeous.  From many of the rooms you can actually see the animals moving around the wildlife preserve.  There are birds, giraffes, zebras and Thompson's gazelles.  You can also see these animals and the savanna through the 4 story observation window in the lobby area.

Outside the lobby is the savannah.  Here you can walk the trails and visit Arusha Rock to get elevated views of the animals and the grounds surrounding the lodge.  You will see many animals, trees and plants native to Africa.    At night, cast members are outside with night vision binoculars showing you the animals and sharing information.  It's very interesting and educational!

There are three great table service restaurants at Animal Kingdom Lodge: Boma- Flavors of Africa and Jiko- The Cooking Place and Sanaa.  Boma is a buffet style restaurant will a mix of French, Malaysian, Indian, Chinese and English foods.  It has been described as "global fusion" style and resembles an African marketplace.  Jiko is a nice restaurant that features foods with an African touch.  You'll be able to find seafood, steak, chicken and vegetarian offerings. Sanaa, located in the Kidani Village, overlooks the savanna where you can watch the animals roaming as you eat!   This menu features African-Indian foods.

What is your favorite part of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge?

  1. Great post! I love that all 5 of you picked a different resort - I've visited them all and love each one for different reasons. :)

  2. I really need to spend more time here. I've only been once & that was to eat at Boma (NOT my fave restaurant), and we were all completely exhausted. I'd love to go just hang out & watch the animals sometime. What a cool place to stay!

  3. Another great resort! I have some wonderful memories of sitting outside at night by the fire pit and listening to the CMs telling stories. Love the Zebra Domes at Boma!

  4. I didn't even realize they would tell stories around the fire pit... add it to my list!!

  5. I think we may try Boma on our next visit... I've heard mixed reviews, but we're willing to try!!

  6. Heidi- it is crazy how we all picked different ones without even communicating about it! That happened when we wrote about our favorite WS country too!! Way cool!
