The Pre Trip Cooking Disaster...

Some of you may remember when I wrote about making Mickey inspired treats for our trip on my "to do list" several weeks ago.  Well, that challenge presented itself last night and might I add that I'm no "Cooking with Mickey!!"

This is what I was shooting for: Mickey Mouse Oreos and Mickey Mouse Cake Pops.  I won't even bother posting the "how to" pictures from last night... at midnight.  I'll just let you click on these links and see what they SHOULD look like! ;)

But I will share with you a few finished photos, of the ones that survived, barely!

These cake pops have potential, but I don't think I have the patience to deal with this project again.  I have NO idea how the girl in the directions (link) above made the faces- I can't even imagine!  I could barely make the silhouette, much less the face!

The Oreos were easier to deal with but they wouldn't stand up in the foam to harden.  They continued to separate and fall off the stick.  I ended up laying them down on the wax paper to dry.  I guess the next test is to taste them... and honestly, after dealing with it last night, I'm not sure I even want to try them...

What did work was my Mickey Mouse Rice Krispy Treats!  Those turned out great and taste good too!  Next trip, I'll just stick to these treats!  I followed the directions on the back of the Coco Krispy box and one they hardened and cooled, I used a large Mickey Mouse metal cookie cutter to cut out the shape- easy, peasy!!

So, what snacks have you made that are Disney inspired??

  1. Oh my! Loved the inspiration. I am with you on the cake pops, I could never even fathom what the faces would look like if I did them. But I still think your oreos have potential.

  2. Oh girl, no one can compete with Bakerella. She's out of control with the cake pops. I DID watch her little "how to" video on Amazon on the page where you can purchase her cake pop book, and that has actually helped my technique a lot. But I have to say, YOU are braver than me because I don't think I would ever attempt Mickey ones!! I just stick with spheres. I think they look great!! And I have to tell you too, that cake with frosting on it is delicious but there is something about cake with frosting IN it that sends it over the top. SO good.

The Oreo pops falling off the sticks would send me over the edge. Especially at midnight!!

Your rice krispie treats look awesome! I need a Mickey head cookie cutter!
