I loved Shrinky Dinks as a kid! (I may be showing my age by admitting that fact!) If you don't know what Shrinky Dinks are, here is a blurb from Wikipedia: "Shrinky Dinks are a children's toy/activity kit consisting of large flexible sheets which, when heated in an oven, shrink to small hard plates without altering their color or shape. They reached the height of their popularity in the 1980s. Most sets are pre-printed with outline images of popular children's characters or other subjects, which are then colored in before baking."
Last week, while my son and I were perusing the aisles of Wal-Mart, we found a set of Disney's Cars Shrinky Dinks! I think I was more excited than C-man was. The small kit came with 6 Shrinky Dinks, 1 keychain, 3 colored pencils and 5 foam sticker backs for the shrinky dinks. This was the perfect cold, rainy day activity for my boy!
First, he colored the precut shrinky dink images with colored pencils. Once they were colored, we placed them on a foil lined baking sheet. He patiently waited the 3 minutes for them to shrink!
After the tray cooled, we were able to show off our new creation! We now have a Lightning McQueen keychain on the backpack and "stickers' featuring Finn McMissile, Mater, Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli!
We found these at Wal-Mart in the Christmas section (formerly our garden center!). They were in what looked like dollar bins that held cheaper items great for stocking suffers. I can't remember the price, but they were cheap!
