Mary Poppins Birthday Party Games & Activities | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Last fall, we went to the cutest Mary Poppins Birthday party!  This was the most creative party.  We were lucky to have a beautiful fall day to spend outside doing "Mary Poppins" things!

Being the perfect nanny, Mary always plays games... all sorts.  So, that's what we did!  We had croquet, bikes and big wheels, a swing set, balls, and more.  The "Feed the Birds Beanbag Toss" was the cutest!  Mom covered her Cornhole game with fabric to create a bird face.  The hole was the mouth and eyes and a beak were added.

Vote For Auburn University #CheerOnYourDisneySide | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

image from Disney Parks Blog
I've said it before and I'll say it again... I LOVE when two of my worlds collide and this collision is AUsome!  The cheerleaders from my alma mater, Auburn University, are one of 4 squads competing in Disney's Cheer on Your Disney Side competition!  I could not be more excited about this!  I've voted for them each day since the competition began and now I'm asking you to do the same!  The winning squad will earn a $100,000 grant from ESPN for its college spirit program and a team trip to Walt Disney World Resort.

Hidden Mickey Christmas Corn Flake Wreaths | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

One Christmas treat I had never heard of until this year is Corn Flake Wreaths.  I had a friend talk about them and then I found them all over Pinterest.  As soon as I saw them, I knew I wanted to try them... but I had to add a Disney twist to them!  The Hidden Mickey Corn Flake Wreath was born (at least in my house)!

DIY Hidden Mickey Melted Peppermint Garland | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

For weeks I had been eyeing the melted peppermint creations on Pinterest.  I saw the ornaments, bowls, serving trays and more. When I saw the peppermint garland, I knew that's what i wanted to make.  The only problem was finding baker's twine.  Luckily, while perusing the Dollar Spot at Target, I found some!  I quickly bought the peppermints and twine and headed home.

Creating this garland, or any melted peppermint creation, is pretty easy.  The only supplies you'll need are:
  • oven
  • baker's twine
  • peppermints
  • parchment paper
  • cookie sheet
  • cookie cutter shaped like Mickey
  • cooking spray

Disney Games from Wonder Forge {Review} | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Recently, our family received two wonderful games from Wonder Forge that will make perfect Christmas gifts for any Disney fan this season!  We have all enjoyed playing Pictopia: The Ultimate Picture- Trivia Family Game and Star Wars Face Off Dice Game. Both games were just a bit too hard for my almost 6 year old, but with our help, he did fine and loved them both.  My 2 year old was way too young for both, but made up his own rules so he could play too!

Oxygenics Mickey Mouse Shower Head {Review} | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Disclosure: I was sent the Oxygenics Disney Mickey Mouse Shower Head to review on my blog. All opinions expressed are my own.
Our youngest boys love bath time. Each night they rush to the bathroom to get in the tub and get a bath.  They love the bubbles, the toys and the splashing.  However, my youngest does not like having water poured over his head so I can wash his hair!

Recently, this bath time problem was resolved.  We were given the Disney Mickey Mouse Combo Shower Head from Oxygenics to review.  First, the shower heads were very easy to install. It literally took minutes to take our old shower head off and install the combo shower head.  The only tool needed is Channellocks.  If you don't have access to this tool, pliers or vice grips will work.  The plumbers tape was included with the shower head and the instructions were easy to follow as well.

Disney's Frozen Giveaway from Mary Bertsch | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

This time last year our world was rocked with the release of Frozen in theaters.  This movie, the songs, and the characters all became instant HITS with all ages.  My younger boys are both Frozen fans and enjoy everything about this movie.  On a regular basis I hear one of them singing "Let it Go" or "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?".

Now, Avon has joined in on the Frozen Frenzy!  You can own your own Elsa and Olaf Cuddle Pillows!

EpiPen and Walt Disney Parks | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

If you have any family members who have severe allergies, you know the importance of an EpiPen.  My family does not have this worry while we travel, but not all families are as lucky. Travelers who are aware of severe allergies in their families typically travel with needed medications and supplies such as EpiPens. But what about families who learn of allergies while on vacation?  What is a family to do when anaphylaxis happens for the first time on vacation?

Luckily if you are at Walt Disney World or on a Disney Cruise in the near future, you will have access to EpiPens and EpiPen Jrs in the parks.  Mylan, the marketer and distributor of EpiPen® (epinephrine) and EpiPen Jr® (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors, recently announced a multi-year strategic alliance agreement with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Disney Cruise Line to help enhance access to EpiPen and EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors and increase awareness of anaphylaxis, a life-threatening (severe) allergic reaction. The alliance helps support Mylan’s mission to provide the world’s 7 billion people access to high quality medicine and set new standards in health care.

Holiday Wishes By Idina Menzel {Review} | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

I participated in the Idina Menzel Holiday Wishes album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided an album to review but all opinions are my own.

I have always been a fan of Idina Menzel. While I never saw her as Maureen in RENT on stage, I loved her character in the movie version. Maureen/ Idina made me add "Star Be on Broadway" to my bucket list! When I saw Idina in the original cast of Wicked as Elphaba, I was blown away! She quickly became my favorite Broadway actress!

Mickey Mouse Christmas Party Ideas | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Red. Enjoy the ride as we discuss Disney Themed Christmas Parties.
I've always wanted to host a Disney Themed Christmas Party!  But, working at a church and having a large family has always prohibited me from doing so.  December is such a hectic time in our house, I don't think it would be possible to host a Mickey party the way I'd like.  So, instead of having my own party, I'll just plan one here!

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Magic Mirror | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

On our recent trip to Walt Disney World, I had several things on "my list" to see and do.  One of those things was the FREE Magic Mirror at Downtown Disney.  Last year, Home Is Where The Mouse Is posted about the Disney Princess Magic Mirror in the World of Disney Store.  I was totally unaware of this gem!  It's probably because I have 3 sons and have no reason to be looking at princess stuff when we are at Disney!

This trip, I decided to find it.  I ditched my boys for about 10 minutes and went on a search.  I found it in the little girls area of the store, near the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, on the back wall.
There were several little girls waiting for their chance to "try on" the princess dresses.  If there hadn't been little girls in line, I would have totally tried on the Belle dress!

With this "Magic Mirror" girls can stand in front of the mirror and a princess dress will magically appear on their image!  Girls can see which princess dress is their favorite.  I saw 7 different dresses on one little girl: Snow White, Aurora, Tiana, Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, and Cinderella.  This is the perfect way for a little girl to decide which dress to purchase!
Which Princess dress would you want to try on in the Magic Mirror?

The Jingle Cruise at Walt Disney World | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

I've always liked the Jungle Cruise at Walt Disney World.  It's definitely a "must do" on each trip.  I have no idea how many times I've been on it, but I laugh each time like it's my first time hearing the jokes!  The skippers make this attraction what it is!

This year, we were fortunate enough to be at Walt Disney World on November 7, the day they "opened" the "Jingle Cruise."  Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect.  I just thought there would be a few lights, Christmas ornaments and garland draped on the animatronics to help get it in "the season."  BOY, was I wrong! This attraction got a complete make over for the holidays.

The transformation started with the sign (pictured above) and the queue. There were decorations, packages and Christmas signs throughout the queue area.

November Disney Rut | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Our family was at Walt Disney World October 31- November 8 of this year. It was Ah-May-Zing!  We stayed 8 nights at Caribbean Beach.  We attended the last MNSSHP of the year on Halloween and the first MVMCP of the year on Nov. 7th.  We experienced the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage and The Pirate's League.  We ate at several new restaurants and saw lots of new things.  We celebrated Big E's first trip too.  I have lots of trip reports and blog ideas swarming around my head!

We've been back for 2 weeks now and I still can't get back to "normal."  I'm still behind at work.  Thanksgiving and Christmas are sneaking up on me. I still haven't blogged about my son's second birthday party from SEPTEMBER. My house is a wreck and none of us feel 100% because of stomach bugs, head colds and ear aches.

All I want to do is go back to Walt Disney World.

Am I the only one this happens to?!

My plan is to get back on track- with life! :)  I need to get into a routine with my job, my housework, and my blog.  Wish me luck!

Thanksgiving at Disney | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

At Walt Disney World, as soon as the Halloween decorations come down, the Christmas ones are ready to take their place. Somewhere between October 31 and December 25 is a great holiday in our country known as Thanksgiving. However, Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that seems to get lost at Walt Disney World!

I have not been to WDW during Thanksgiving week. I have been there two weeks prior and the week following, but never the week or day of Thanksgiving. So, in preparing this post, I had to do a bit of research. What I found is that there are MANY opportunities for families to eat a traditional Thanksgiving meal at the Disney parks and resorts on Thanksgiving day. That's about it. From what I've found on Disney related web sites, there are not any special Thanksgiving parades or parties. What I did find is there will be high school bands from around the USA performing and at the Hollywood Studios, there will be cheerleading and dance teams from around the country performing in the Opening of the Magic Kingdom Park Main Street, USA Parade.

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: H2O Shampoo | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

One of my favorite "Freebies" at Walt Disney World is the toiletries when we stay on property!  Above are several samples from years past.  I love the fact that Mickey is on each bottle in some form or another.  I also can't bring myself to actually use these trial size toiletries!  I'm not sure why, but I can't.  Instead, they live in a plastic box in my bathroom closet waiting for the next sample size of H2O bath products with Mickey's face to appear.

I really miss the black and red bottles of shampoo from the mid 2000's.  The boxes the soap came in had a quote that I love:
Everybody neat and pretty?  Then on with the show!
~Mickey Mouse Club, 1955

I look forward to seeing what our next trip's toiletries will look like!  I wonder if they will be the same as some from the photo above?!

Little Known Facts About The TTA PeopleMover | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Welcome to those of you joining me from Frontierland Station and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover in Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World was formerly known as the WEDWay PeopleMover (1975-1994) and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (1994-2010).  "WEDWay" being a nod to Walter Elias Disney.  This is my favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.  I don't exactly know why, but it is.  It opened on July 1, 1975 and was based on the PeopleMover at Disneyland park.

Favorite Snacks & Treats at Walt Disney World | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

While our family goes to Walt Disney World for the rides, attractions and shows, we also LOVE all the food options the parks have to offer.  We do love the restaurants on property, but I think our family could literally live on all the snacks, treats and desserts alone!

In planning your family’s vacation to Walt Disney World, you always need to plan for meals, especially if you want reservations at a Table Service Restaurant.  (Remember you can make these reservations 180 days prior to your vacation.)  You can read tour books, blogs and search Disney’s web site for counter service suggestions, which don’t require reservations.  But, you also need to plan for snacks and treats while on your trip!!  If you are participating in the Disney Dining Plan, you will get one snack a day and you don’t want to waste these precious credits!

Here are our families top 10 (in no particular order) Snacks at Walt Disney World:

If you are a guest at Disney's Polynesian Resort, the Spirit of Aloha Dinner, or Ohana, you will get a FREE Hawaiian Lei! While you do have to pay for your resort room or your meal, they lei is still free.

These make excellent souvenirs for kids back home too!  We have several in our dress up box that get used on a regular basis as an actual  lei, a cowboy lasso, a rope, a swing for stuffed animals and more! :)  They are also a nice addition to a Halloween costume!

Happy Halloween!

Haunted Mansion Death Certiifcate | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Last fall I was so excited to find the Death Certificates from the Haunted Mansion at Doombuggies.com.  This year, I went back to print some for my boys and found the web site has changed. :(

Once upon a time, you could fill in your information and customize your own Death Certificate.  Now, you can only download a PDF and fill in the blanks yourself.

While this new Death Certificate is better than nothing, I do miss the one from last year.

Happy Hallo-week!
