Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower Savory Foods

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney Donna Kay and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

When I chose the topic "savory foods" for a baby shower, I was thinking candy, cakes, cookies, etc.  That's just how my mind works!   "Savory" to me is sweets and desserts... then I realized there was another stop on our Virtual Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower that would cover sweets... doh!!  So, I immediately had to start searching on Google and Pinterest for ideas.

Wouldn't you know it... most people DO think like I do! ;)  Almost all of the party ideas I found were covered in cakes, cookies, desserts, candy bars, treats, brownies, etc.  This was going to be more difficult than I originally thought!  So, with some hard searching and creative thinking I did come up with some "Savory Food" suggestions for an Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower!

Enjoy!

The first few suggestions are great for a baby shower (or any party) that will include younger guests.  The last few are actually more "savory" for adults taste!

1) Finger Sandwiches- Choose different types of sandwiches that your guests might enjoy: PB&J, Chicken Salad, Egg Salad, Ham & Cheese, etc.  Use cookie cutters to cut the sandwiches into hearts and include an "Eat Me" sign on a toothpick stuck into each sandwich.  Free printable "Eat Me" and "Drink Me" signs from www.bnute.com.

2) Caterpillar Skewers- We chose to put grapes on skewers to resemble the Caterpillar in the movie.

3) Caterpillar Puffs-  These are just Cheese puffs.  My son actually said they could be Cheshire Cat tails, Cheshire Cat smiles OR Caterpillar Puffs!  Whatever you call them, they aren't so "savory", but cute if you have kids at the party!

4) Strawberry Roses- The Queen of Hearts loves her red roses, so spend some time turning your strawberries into roses.  Insert a skewer into each strawberry and assemble a bouquet!

5) Cheshire Cat Cheese Ball- Better Homes & Gardens has a great tutorial on how to make this cheese ball!  Add your favorite crackers and you have quite a savory treat with an Alice twist!
6) White Rabbit Salad- I'll assume the White Rabbit loves to nibble on salad complete with carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and more!  You can also include radishes cut to look like mushrooms where the Caterpillar sits!

7) Queen of Artichoke Hearts Dip- Cook this easy recipe for artichoke heart dip from cooks.com, but add a twist by calling it by the Queen of Heart's name!  Serve warm with crackers or sliced baguettes.

I like to use tent cards with my food to showcase the creative names given to the dishes- I have to let the guests know I'm not totally crazy and there is a way this stuff ties into the theme (Alice in Wonderland) of the party!  In addition to the themed food, you can always include other dishes to round out your offerings.

What would you serve at an Alice in Wonderland Party?
