Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Leis | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

If you are a guest at Disney's Polynesian Resort, the Spirit of Aloha Dinner, or Ohana, you will get a FREE Hawaiian Lei! While you do have to pay for your resort room or your meal, they lei is still free.

These make excellent souvenirs for kids back home too!  We have several in our dress up box that get used on a regular basis as an actual  lei, a cowboy lasso, a rope, a swing for stuffed animals and more! :)  They are also a nice addition to a Halloween costume!

Happy Halloween!

Haunted Mansion Death Certiifcate | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Last fall I was so excited to find the Death Certificates from the Haunted Mansion at  This year, I went back to print some for my boys and found the web site has changed. :(

Once upon a time, you could fill in your information and customize your own Death Certificate.  Now, you can only download a PDF and fill in the blanks yourself.

While this new Death Certificate is better than nothing, I do miss the one from last year.

Happy Hallo-week!

Frozen and Spiderman Bagged Apples {Press Release} | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

I am always trying to get my family, and myself, to eat better.  We need to start eating more fresh fruits and vegetables instead of processed junk.  Being a big Disney family, it always helps when Disney adds it's label to these healthy foods!  My youngest would definitely choose the "Let it Go" apples, while my middle son would choose Spiderman.  These would also be a great addition to our food supply on our next WDW vacation!

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Wishes Nighttime Spectacular | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Wishes Nighttime Spectacular is a MUST see during any trip to the Magic Kingdom!  But did you know you don't have to be inside the Magic Kingdom to appreciate this fireworks show?

You can view this show for FREE from several other locations on property.  Two of my favorite are from the beach at the Polynesian Resort and the roof of the Contemporary Resort.  Not only can you see the fireworks from these locations, you can also hear the music!  Disney pipes in the music to this show on the beach and on the roof!

Meat Loaf from 50's Prime Time Cafe Recipe | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Last night dad made dinner for us.  He chose meat loaf.  After he had finished prepping and it was cooking, he informed us that the recipe he used was from the 50's Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios.  He said since we aren't eating there on our upcoming trip, we had to have it at home!  He found the recipe from Mr. Food's Disney inspired Recipes.

Who says he's not excited about this trip?!?! :)
Dad's Meat Loaf- 50's Prime Time Cafe

What You'll Need:1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground pork
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 eggs
1/2 cup ketchup, divided
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon light brown sugar

What To Do:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, combine beef, pork, onion, bread crumbs, eggs, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; mix well. Press mixture into prepared pan.
  • In a small bowl, combine remaining ketchup and brown sugar; brush over meat loaf.
  • Bake 1 to 1-1/4 hours, or until juices run clear. Allow to sit 5 minutes, then slice and serve.

Star Wars Reads Day- A Disappointment | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

We were so excited about Star Wars Reads day last Saturday, October 11, 2014.  C-man and I had read all about it on the web site and I even shared all the details here on my blog.  When we found out our local Books A Million was participating, we planned our day around this event.  C-man wore his Star Wars shirt and Big E even stayed home with daddy so we could have some Star Wars time together.

When we got to BAM, there was nothing.  We looked on our own all around the store and there were no signs of Star Wars Reads Day.  We arrived around 2:10 and the event "started" at 2:00.  I thought they may just be a bit behind.  When we asked the customer service desk about it, they directed us to the Star Wars section of books.  They didn't know about Star Wars Reads Day.

We were quite disappointed.  Instead of hearing Star Wars books, maybe participating in a craft or a game, we got to pick out Star Wars books to buy and read at home.  Oh, we also got to try on Pug Dog masks.

Next year, I'll just plan to do my own Star Wars Reads Day at home. :(

Did anyone else participate?  I hope you had better luck than we did!

MagicBand Budget iPhone App Review {Sponsored} | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

{Sponsored Post: I received a free copy of the MagicBand Budget iPhone App to review. All opinions are my own}

This summer I was given the opportunity to review the MagicBand Budget app for my iPhone. While I have not had the opportunity to use this app "live" in the parks yet, I have enjoyed using it at home, becoming familiar with it before our next trip. I know from past trips, the Disney receipts can add up quickly. If families aren't careful, the vacation budget can be blown in a hurry. With the MagicBand Budget app by DKDesign, you have a much better chance of staying within your vacation budget.

We are in countdown mode for our next Walt Disney World vacation. In helping prepare for our trip, we've been using the app "Where in Disney World?" on my iPhone.  This app came out earlier this year and it has been so much fun to look for specific foods, characters and souvenirs prior to our trip! Star Wars Reads Day 2014 | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Heads up!  For those of you who don't know, Saturday, October 11 is Star Wars Reads Day!  What is Star Wars Reads Day?  "Star Wars Reads Day is an international event that celebrates reading and Star Wars. It was launched in 2012 by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners — Abrams, Chronicle Books, Dark Horse, Del Rey, DK Publishing, Klutz, Random House Audio, Scholastic, and Workman Publishing. Last year, Quirk Books joined the fun, and we’re excited to have Disney Book Group participate this year." From the official Star Wars Day FAQ Page.

I was thrilled to find out that our local  Books A Million store would be celebrating Star Wars Reads Day on Saturday from 2-4! Yes, we will be participating.  You can find out if you have a participating location near you on this map.

If you are a teacher or are interested in doing your own Star Wars Reads Day at home, you can download the Activity Kit here which is full of book ideas, crafts, coloring & drawing pages, and games & puzzles.  I think we'll try to do some of these activities on our own later in the year.  These would be great to do in conjunction with a Star Wars Party or a Star Wars movie night!

Will you be participating in Star Wars Reads Day?

Disney's Yacht Club Review

I am so very happy to share with you one of my Best Disney Friends!  Donna Kay and I happened to "meet" on line a while ago because we share two loves: Disney AND Auburn University.  We are both from Alabama and love the south.  The two of us hit it off immediately and quickly became more than just Disney friends. We only live about 4 hours apart, but have never met in person. Currently, I'm trying to convince my husband to change the route we will take to Walt Disney World this fall so we can drive through Troy, Alabama- just so I can meet Donna Kay!  Hopefully one day we can meet!

Thanks Donna Kay for being willing to share your experience at Disney's Yacht Club.  You can find Donna Kay blogging at Magically Donna Kay, on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Etsy and with her Travel Agency, WDW Guru!

It should come as no surprise that my family loves Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.  What’s not to love – there’s the nautical theme, Stormalong Bay, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and close proximity to Epcot, the Boardwalk and Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Resort Hopping | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

One of my favorite FREE things to do at Walt Disney World is "resort hop."  The Monorail Resort Loop is my top choice to 'hop.'  It's easy to get on the Monorail and ride to the Contemporary (with Bay Lake Towers), the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Resorts. Get off at each stop, browse the lobby, gift shops, restaurant options, and pool/ outside areas.  It's amazing how all the resorts have such a unique feel.

Celebrating a Pregnancy at Walt Disney World | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Welcome to those of you joining me from Frontierland Station and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.  Today I'm happy to share ideas for celebrating a pregnancy at Walt Disney World!
On our trip to Walt Disney World in February 2012, I found out I was pregnant 6 weeks before we left.  That means I was 10 weeks pregnant on our trip.  We also had a trip planned for July of 2012, where I would be 32 weeks pregnant.  Rescheduling these trips was not an option for us.  Being only 6 weeks away and not having travelers insurance, we couldn't cancel.  The trip in July was with the youth from church and it was not a trip that could be rescheduled either.  So what did we do?  Went to Disney and celebrated our baby, without the other two kids!

CHOC Walk in the Park 2014 | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

I love the runDisney events.  I've been fortunate enough to participate in three at Walt Disney World.  My hope is to one day participate again.  But, not everyone can run long distances.  For those who can't run, but can walk, consider participating in the CHOC Walk in the Park at Disneyland.  While it's not a runDisney event, it is a wonderful event to help the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).  If you can't walk, donate.  There are so many beautiful children who need our help!  I wish I lived closer to Disneyland so I could participate.  Here is more information and a video about this amazing event.
