The Rescuers Family Movie Night | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

The Rescuers was released on June 22, 1977. I think I vaguely remember seeing this in the movie theatre right after I turned three years old. I know I remember loving the book as a child and wanting to read about Miss Bianca and Bernard. Last June, I was able to introduce this movie to my boys for the first time during our weekly Family Movie Night. This was the 24th movie in our collection.

While they claimed to have enjoyed it, I'm not sure they really did. My youngest actually left during the viewing, but my middle son stayed for the whole thing. Maybe if I could have come up with better snacks they would have been more into it!

For our snacks, we had Ring Pops to represent the Devil's Eye Diamond Bianca and Bernard helped find in the pirate skull. We also ate gingersnap cookies. These were the cookies Penny's cat, Rufus, ate in the movie.

Have you seen The Rescuers? What were your thoughts?

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: T-shirt at Epcot | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

While this FREE t-shirt from Epcot was in fact free, it came at a cost. On our trip with the church youth group in 2012, one of our students got sick on Mission: SPACE at Epcot. It was not pretty! When he exited the attraction, the cast members immediately took him to the side and gave him a free orange t-shirt to change into. He was given a Disney bag to hold his original shirt along with the free, plain, orange shirt. I assume he got an orange t-shirt because he was riding the orange side. Maybe if he had been on the green side the shirt would have been green?

If you are worried about getting sick on Mission:SPACE or any other attraction, this shows you that Disney will take care of you. We did opt to go back to our room for him to wash his face, brush his teeth and rest a bit, but he got to keep his orange Epcot shirt!

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Tomorrowland Speedway License | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

All kids are excited about learning how to drive a car.  It seems like such a long time to wait until you are 15 or 16 to get a license. But, at Walt Disney World, if you are at least 54 inches tall, you can drive your own car by yourself at the Tomorrowland Speedway! Guests between 32 inches can drive with someone who is 54 inches or taller.

But did you know you can ask a cast member for a FREE drivers license for your kids? When you enter or exit, ask for a license. It makes a great souvenir and it's FREE!

The Shades of Green at Walt Disney World | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Thanks to my mom for writing this article for A Disney Mom's Thoughts. I have not had the pleasure of staying at Shades of Green so I had to turn to my mom!  Before she shares her thoughts, here is a bit of history about this resort:

In 1971, this building was the club house for the Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses. In December 1973, Disney added guest rooms and opened the Golf Resort. It had 151 rooms. Since this resort was only appealing to Golfers and not your typical Magic Kingdom and Epcot guests, Disney changed the name in 1986 to The Disney Inn. They added 150 more rooms and included a Snow White theme. In 1994, the Department of Defense leased the resort and land from Disney. In 1996, the DoD purchased the resort, but Disney still owns the land. Currently, there are 586 rooms at the resort.

Disney Wordless Wednesday: Disney in the Details | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Almost wordless today...

I love the attention to detail at Disney! Everywhere you look Disney has taken time to add the "Disney touch". You can find this everywhere- bathrooms, attractions, restaurants, sidewalks, costumes, landscapes, resorts, EVERYWHERE!

Have you ever paid attention to the details in the small train scene at the Germany pavilion in Epcot?  Here are two shots of the same small house by the tracks- one in spring, one at Christmas. I would have never thought to add Christmas decorations to that small house, but Disney did!

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Family Movie Night | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was released on March 11, 1977 by Walt Disney Studios. The first time I saw this movie was June 11, 2016. Almost 40 years after it was released. After watching it, I know why it took almost 40 years. I didn't like it. My boys didn't like it. But, we pushed through it and finished it so we could say we did it.

Packing for Walt Disney World | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Packing for your Walt Disney World trip should begin way in advance. I say this because there are several things I suggest packing that may not be on your mind. If you wait until the last minute, you may end up spending more money than needed. Be on the lookout for sales in stores and online. Look for travel size items instead of full size, especially if you are flying, and to keep in your park bag.

Previously, I have shared an extensive packing list our family uses before each Disney trip. This is overkill, I know! But, it may give you an idea of the types of things your family may need on a trip.

Happy 10th Anniversary! | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

I think a Disney Cruise would be the best way to celebrate!! :)

How do you incorporate Disney into your anniversary/ special event celebrations?

Walt Disney World Freebie Friday: Rider Switch | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Rider switch is technically a FREE service provided to families while visiting Walt Disney World.  You do have to have park tickets purchased to be able to utilize rider switch!

Rider switch allows mom and dad to ride the attractions they want to ride when the children are too small or too scared to ride. One parent or adult waits with the child or children while the rest of the party experiences the attraction. Once they are off, the adult who just rode will stay with the children while the waiting adult goes on the attraction without waiting in line.  You can read more details about how to do it on the Disney web site.

Robin Hood Family Movie Night| A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Robin Hood was our next movie in our 2016 New Year's Movie Resolution.  We actually watched this movie and had our movie night way back in June of 2016. This movie was released by Walt Disney Studios on November 8, 1973. My mom was actually pregnant with me when this came out! I vaguely remember seeing this movie as a child. I think I remember the book more than the movie.

My boys were familiar with the music because we have several of these songs on a Disney Movies CD we listen to in the car. Robin Hood was such a fun movie for my boys. My oldest had seen it but this was the first viewing for my youngest. Of course, they like the "bad guys" and want to shoot arrows. I knew this would be the case, so for our snack we had arrows and targets!

Traveling By Car To Walt Disney World

Traveling to Walt Disney World is nothing new for our family. I have been lucky enough to travel to Walt Disney World 22 times and Disneyland once.  Currently, we are planning our first Disney Cruise for 2017. Of the 22 times I've traveled to Walt Disney World, 17 were by car, 3 by plane, and 2 by church bus! I've been as a child, teenager, and adult. I've also traveled with children, teenagers, adults, and alone. I've planned a solo trip, a trip for my immediate family, trips with friends, trips with multiple generations, and trips with up to 37 people on a youth mission trip.

While each trip is completely unique and different, one thing is the same-  you have to travel to get there! While flying is SO much easier, I'm too frugal to do this. I'd rather spend the extra time to travel and have the extra money to spend on meals, souvenirs, or extra days at the parks.

Magic Kingdom Attractions: Mickey's PhilharMagic | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Mickey's PhilharMagic is located in Fantasyland right after you pass through Cinderella Castle on the left side. This attraction opened in October of 2003. PhilharMagic is in the same building as Peter Pan's Flight. Before housing PhilharMagic, this venue was home to the Mickey Mouse Revue, Magic Journeys, and most recently Legend of the Lion King.

This attraction is a 12 minute long 3D 4D movie that seats 494 guests. While you do wear 3D glasses to watch this 3D movie, it's 4D because at various times during the show you use other senses as well as you may smell scents, feel water splash on you, or feel a gust of wind. I don't feel that any of the special effects are too intense for children. This is definitely an attraction that can be enjoyed by the entire family.

The Aristocats Family Movie Night | A Disney Mom's Thoughts

The Aristocats was released by Walt Disney Studios on December 24, 1970. Our family watched it on May 28, 2016 for the first time as a part of our 2016 New Year's Resolution. Meeting Thomas O'Malley and Duchess was a treat. The story reminded me a bit of Lady and the Tramp... but with cats. The only thing we knew about this movie prior to watching it was the song, Everybody Wants To Be A Cat. Everything else was new- the characters, the storyline, everything. (Not sure how I missed this one in my childhood...)
